Pair of panels illustrating respectively a "Battle scene in a landscape" and "Soldiers in a landscape". Both scenes are composed in the same way, with a foreground framed by trees where the action takes place, and a background that opens onto a body of water and a mountainous landscape. The panels are attributed to Elias Martin (1739-1818), a Swedish landscape and history painter. He worked for ten years in England, and is best known for his landscapes with their typically Nordic atmosphere and romantic lighting effects. Oil on oak panel.
