Very beautiful and monumental Empire-style bookcase. Made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, it opens with three large screen doors, a central one and two side doors, each revealing four and three shelves respectively. This majestic display bookcase is beautifully decorated with gilded bronzes, depicting winged Victories, Egyptian busts, masks and foliage motifs (palmettes, crowns, rosettes), symmetrically arranged on the three parts of the cabinet. The entablature depicts a coronation scene, with a winged putto in an antique chariot pulled by doves on a garland, and two allegories of virtue. Imposing, uncluttered, with rigorously symmetrical bronze ornamentation, this bookcase is a remarkable example of the Empire style and would add a great deal of cachet and originality to any interior.
