Two oil-on-panel "Paysages aux vaches", attributed to Jean-Michel Diebolt (1779-1824). Both paintings feature mountain landscapes with cows. The first depicts a couple of shepherds accompanied by cows, goats and a dog. The man, with his staff in one hand, holds a kid in the other, while his companion sits astride a horse (or donkey). The second oil painting shows two cows in the foreground, one of them confronting the shepherd's dog. In the background, on the other side of the river, a shepherd and the rest of the herd. The paintings are signed: on one, the signature of "M. Diebolt" is clearly visible, on the other it has faded slightly. The two original frames date from the 19th century. Jean-Michel Diebolt (1779-1824) was a French painter of landscapes and animals. He was a pupil of Suvé and Demarne. He appeared at the Paris Salon in 1824.
